Hi. How was your week? Ours was slower paced and it sure felt nice. My kids had two days off of school, and then my son was home with a moderate cold later on. (this seems to be the norm after long weekends. too much fun, I guess...) I have to confess that I love it when he has to stay home. It reminds me of our homeschooling days, which I often miss.
If you have some slower moments for yourself, or just need a quick escape, take some time and click around on some of my recent favorite internet finds. Cheers!
Best Reads:
Boredom is a Thing Now - (Not Just Another Mother Blogger) Tina had me at the first line: "I am exactly the wrong person to have cancer." This is a quick read that muses about how fighting cancer has changed her days.
Quit Living to Work and Work to Live - (Hey Kendra) I've followed Kendra on Facebook for a couple of years now. She's always inspiring, but this post may be my favorite. She shares some really touching experiences, but the bottome line is this: "Your reality is created by what you give real estate to on your calender." Read it yourself. You won't be sorry!
Fits and Flairs - (Brain, Child) This is a touching and relatable essay by Francie Arenson Dickman concerning her peri-menopausal state and a shopping experience with her young teen daughter. I can't do justice describing it, but it was wonderful.
In Defense of Teenagers - (Elizabeth Gilbert's Facebook) This showed up in my feed today, and was a lovely letter written to the younger generation. My favorite part may have been the young adults leaving comments of deep gratitude for the validation Liz offered.
19 Tips to Impress Literally Everyone You Meet - (Buzzfeed) Over the last couple of years I've slightly improved my meeting people game, but I'm still often uncomfortable in social situations. This list is full of great advice! I'll be using many of their suggestions.
The Yummy Life:
Twix Cookies, Twix Truffle Brownies, Twix Muddy Buddies - (Chef in Training) Three treats with caramel, shortbread, and chocolate? Sign me up!
Nutella Hot Chocolate - (The Kitchn) I've seen a couple versions around but chose this one to share because Maureen offers both small and large batch instructions and "serves 2" just isn't going to cut it around here.
Reading Challenges:
I've been intentional about reading lately, so I'm excited to follow allong with both of these lovely ladies and trusted book recommenders. Modern Mrs. Darcy has a fun list of categories and Hollywood Housewife is starting an online book club! I can't wait to get started!
