I got the idea for a monthly goals post while reading The Balanced Wife. It turns out she does these to link up with The Tiny Twig. I just love the internet!
I think I'm a weird normal mix of 1) being really laid back about things, (which sometimes manifests as procrastination), and 2) needing to make lists to track my projects and plans. (it's my desperate attempt at organization.) So while I have general ideas in my head about what I'd like to accomplish each month, writing them down is going to be a great fit for me.
Without further adieu, here are my goals for August:
1. (finally!) Have my kids make a summer bucket list.
As there are only 2.5 weeks of "summer" left, I'd better get cracking.
2. Read and finish two books. One fiction. One non-fiction.
Thank goodness I've already started. I'm reading The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton, and Parenting the QBQ Way by John & Karen Miller.
3. Make plans for our wedding anniversary.
This one is in the works. We don't officially "take turns" planning, but it's my turn anyway. It'll be a relaxing, low-key quickie, as it's the second of three weekends in a row we'll be away.
4. Finish my independent study class. That has a deadline.
That I'm WAY behind on. If I finish on time, it's truly going to be an August miracle.
5. Help the kids check in on the goals they set in January.
We (I) kind of dropped the ball on this a few months ago. It's time to reevaluate and jump back in.
6. Research more affordable ways to watch NFL games! :)
It's almost football season!! (can you tell I'm excited?) Last year our package was free with a contract renewal. This season they want an arm and a leg. Each month. There has got to be a better way...
7. Go to a Drive-In Movie theater!
I've wanted to do this for three years now. It's going to happen.
8. Start a "mom journal" for each kid.
I had this idea years ago. It was to write a letter each month to each child on the day that coordinates with their birthday. (for such a simple idea, that was an awkward explanation.) If their birthday fell on the 5th, every month on the 5th I'd write a letter telling them what they've been doing, what I love about them, etc. I've done it a handful of times over the years but this is getting ridiculous! They're practically my size! I'm going to start now and just keep going. Better late than never.
(I hope.)
Thanks for reading! What is something you want to make happen this month?
